CU Files Lawsuit Against Federal Mandate

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, Cornerstone University joins Dordt College in filing a federal lawsuit against the Obama administration unconstitutional mandate that employers – including religious ones – provide insurance coverage that facilitates access to drugs that can induce abortions.

Both schools are represented at no cost by Alliance Defending Freedom. "This filing is first and foremost an effort to preserve and protect our religious freedom as guaranteed by the First Amendment,” said President Dr. Joe Stowell.

“Given our conviction that life begins at conception and our commitment to the sanctity of life, we find the mandate to provide our faculty, staff, and students with insurance that provides access to abortion-inducing prescriptions unacceptable. In our view, the government should not be able to force us to buy or provide insurance that gives access to objectionable drugs, devices, and services that violate our institutional convictions."
