English Education (Elementary and Secondary)


The English program seeks to introduce students to the important literature of world culture with an aim of developing them into effective teachers who can understand moral choices and can design, express, interpret and evaluate written literature in light of a Christian worldview.

What can I do with this major?

With a major in English Education, you are able to teach English literature and writing at the elementary or secondary level.

What are some interesting classes I may take?

  • ENG 323 – Children’s Literature
  • ENG 353 – Linguistic History of the English Language

What student teaching opportunities are available with this program?

Student teaching opportunities are set up through the Teacher Education office.

What are grads doing now?

The CU English program has graduates teaching at the elementary and secondary level in Michigan and throughout the United States. Grads are also teaching English overseas in international schools.
