Why GRTS?

Gain a comprehensive, Christ-centered education from an accredited seminary.

At the end of the day, after all the papers and exams, our focus at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary is to develop leaders who will guide others into life-changing relationships with Jesus Christ. Every class at GRTS centers on this principle, reminding students of their responsibility to feed the sheep of God’s Kingdom. We’re accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Enjoy flexible classes that allow you to still be an employee, a parent, a spouse, and a friend.

Many of our students balance family and jobs and ministries while going through our program. Our block scheduling means that each class is only one day per week, leaving you time to still maintain other responsibilities without overwhelming yourself. We offer classes in the morning, afternoon, and evening—plus you can take up to eight of your courses online. Click here for an updated list of our Course Schedules.

Discover the program that best suits your calling.

GRTS offers a wide variety of programs, from licensed counseling to Ph.D. prep to ministry training. You can become knowledgeable in intercultural ministries or prepare for pastoral ministry with our Master of Divinity degree. Click here for a complete list of all our degrees and programs!

Receive financial aid to help make your education affordable.

More than ¾ of GRTS students receive financial aid. We offer grants and scholarships based on your financial need and the amount of credits you take.

Develop a solid foundation of biblical and theological knowledge.

Bible and Theology courses are an integral part of GRTS, allowing you to fully integrate Scripture. We are fully committed to preparing you to become a biblically and culturally informed leader in your workplace and community. Our interdenominational setting allows for honest discussion from many different backgrounds.

Join a community and build relationships with your professors and peers.

Our program averages a class size of 20 students, meaning discussion is active and inclusive as you wrestle with various theological and ministerial issues. You will have the chance to connect with the professors on a regular basis, helping you network for future job opportunities and ministry partners.

Pursue ministry in a city that is booming with opportunities.

As a city, Grand Rapids is well resourced with churches and social services agencies, including our own alumni. Whether you want to serve in a mega church or plant a house church, lead a homeless ministry or start your own non-profit…You will find it here in Grand Rapids!

Prepare for a life after graduation with internships, ministry residencies, and thesis classes.

Every program includes practical classes that will help prepare you for life after GRTS. If you are a counseling student, you will have 700 hours of practicums and internships. Ministry students will have four different residency classes. And students going on to further education will have the opportunity to create and defend a thesis for Ph.D. prep.
