Music at Cornerstone University

College is a time to explore your passions. At Cornerstone University, you can hone your skills as a musician even if you aren’t a music major. You have the opportunity to participate in music ensembles, lead worship in chapel and take lessons on your instrument. These experiences enrich your college experience, help you make connections with your peers and give you avenues to do what you love.

Music Ensembles

Cornerstone offers several open and audition-only music ensembles. Our three choral groups perform twice a semester and frequently travel locally and globally. Our three instrumental ensembles also perform twice a semester and give students the opportunity to continue playing band repertoire, jazz and string music. And Cornerstone offers the opportunity, through audition, to participate in one of the many worship music teams.

Soli Deo Gloria High School Honor Band

As a high school student, you have the unique opportunity to experience music performance at the college level through the Soli Deo Gloria High School Honor Band. During this event, you will rehearse with university instrumental instructors and a guest conductor. The event concludes with an evening concert with the Cornerstone University Symphonic Winds.

Music Facilities

Recently renovated and equipped with updated and well-maintained instruments and equipment, the music facilities at Cornerstone are equipped to help both music and non-music students to rehearse and perform well. These facilities include several practice rooms, recital halls and performance spaces like Matthews Performing Arts Center.

Music Without Ceasing Artist Series

Learn more about what music looks like in all settings, from church worship, to producing albums. The Music Without Ceasing Artist Series at Cornerstone brings in experts who work in the music industry to speak about their experiences, perform music or conduct masterclass workshops for CU students. These lectures are free and open to all students and the public.

My time at Cornerstone was marked by a community that surrounded and supported me—faculty who took a personal interest in building a relationship with me; staff that were sensitive, encouraging and inspired me to grow; and challenging, supportive fellow students with whom I have enjoyed long-lasting friendships.
