Acceptance as a Major into the Division of Music

Having completed the university application process, all incoming music students must also pass an audition for admission as a major into any music degree program. (Students wishing to minor in music are not required to complete the audition process).  Students must complete the audition at their first fall semester jury exam in December of their freshman year.  On the basis of the audition, the music division will do one of the following:

  • accept
  • accept on probation
  • deny

If a student is accepted on probation or denied acceptance into the program, that student has two additional opportunities to re-audition and may continue to enroll in music major courses.  Transfer students who enter in the spring semester must complete the process at the end of their first semester. The music office manager schedules all auditions.
