News May 29, 2018

On Saturday, May 5, Cornerstone University hosted a Commencement ceremony to celebrate its traditional undergraduate students.

Among the fantastic graduates were two exemplary students who were awarded the distinguished President’s Award.

Each year, this honor is bestowed upon one female and one male graduate. These graduates exemplify the fulfillment of CU’s mission to develop graduates who will distinguish themselves as influencers in our world for Christ. Award winners stand apart in regard to academic excellence, excellence in leadership, excellence in Christian service and excellence in campus involvement.

This year, President Stowell was honored to give the distinguished awards to Rachel Rounds, a Bible ministry major, and Jon Stewart, an exercise science and pre-physical therapy double major.

Rachel Rounds

Rounds has graciously served the Cornerstone community as a resident assistant, discipleship intern, BRM chair advisory member and as a student ambassador for the Traditional Undergraduate Admissions Office. Additionally, she has consistently displayed academic excellence and graduated summa cum laude with a double major.

Rounds has been noted for her love of Jesus, passion for the word of God and heart for discipleship. She is honored for serving with humility and exceptional grace and character. As such, Rounds stands out as an exemplary CU graduate committed to influencing the world for Jesus Christ.

Jon Stewart

Award winner Jon Stewart is noted especially for excellence as an athlete and student leader. As a talented baseball player, Stewart was awarded the Leroy Walker Character Award by the Wolverine-Hosier Athletic Conference and served his teammates by leading them in a weekly Bible study throughout the baseball season.

Stewart stands out as a leader among his peers, having served as a Terra Firma leader and a high academic achiever. He also is credited with launching Cornerstone’s first-ever Physical Therapy Club. Stewart is noted for his tremendous Christ-like character, leadership skills, sense of humor and servant heart.

The Cornerstone community is grateful to have hosted these two distinguished graduates, and we look forward to seeing how they will influence the world for Jesus Christ.
