For Cornerstone University, its second annual Celebration of Scholarship on April 25 honored students' scholastic achievements and efforts to add new knowledge in their academic fields. The one-day research and creative arts symposium featured 32 student presentations, 43 poster presentations, a liturgical chapel service and two music ensemble concerts. Event attendees included parents and alumni.

"Participation in Celebration of Scholarship is advantageous to students in their vocational journey," Anne Gaertner, director of employer relations and internships, said. "The event allows students to practice and demonstrate many of the National Association of Colleges and Employers' career readiness competencies as determined by broad-based research among employers.

"For example, Annalisa Bankes demonstrated her global and cultural fluency through 'Transforming Us: Why Diversity Matters' and David Dodds, Kevin Mannes and Austin Lintemuth demonstrated their use of critical thinking and problem solving through 'Economic and Social Impacts of Marijuana Legalization.' For students going to graduate school or scientific opportunities, Celebration of Scholarship provides a forum to share original research and contribute to a body of knowledge."

Faculty representatives and administrators reviewed presentation proposals for their alignment with Boyer's model of scholarship. Selected entries addressed real-world problems, incorporated interdisciplinary insights or placed emphasis on the creation of new knowledge.

"As a student, Celebration of Scholarship is a great way to share your academic accomplishments with other students in a formal setting," Kevin Mannes (B.S. ’19), student body president and planning committee member, said. "It gives us an opportunity to dig deeper into our field of study which enhances our overall educational experience."
