PGS Launches Innovative Approach to Project Management Training
From planning budgets to evaluating risk to working with teams, project management is a skill in high demand across industries. Now, Cornerstone University’s Professional & Graduate Studies (PGS) is offering an inventive approach for current and aspiring project managers seeking professional development—all in just three courses.
Through a series of three specialized courses, students are equipped with a dynamic approach to learning that provides the practical knowledge and classroom hours required for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam. This industry-recognized assessment and certification provides impressive benefits such as career advancement, new job opportunities and potential for salary increases.
And students can be ready to earn that credential with three courses at PGS. Courses include areas such as communications, risk assessment, project development and team management. This practical curriculum is beneficial for any individual interested in improving their project management skills, whether or not they continue to pursue certification.
“Project management training [and eventual certification] is in high demand in the marketplace,” said James Link, executive director of enrollment services at PGS. “We see a high number of job postings for business-related roles that request candidates have this type of training. The goal was to offer this to existing PGS students and also to the community as non-degree training.”
These three courses provide the knowledge, skills and experience to equip students to be successful and confident in pursuing PMP certification. These six-week courses are completed all online, one at a time so students can keep working while advancing their professional development.
More than just meeting requirements to sit for the exam, this preparation equips students with practical, hands-on experience that can transform how they perform at work and what opportunities they may be interested in exploring.
“Managing a project effectively allows applicable work to be completed on time, ensuring quality and maximizing efficiency,” Link said. “When we provide the training, this allows aspiring leaders to gain the necessary skills and work to meet organizational goals. Transforming the world starts with investing in ourselves.”
Eric Weller began this three-course journey in January 2020 while also in a bachelor’s degree program at PGS. As someone committed to professional development, Weller took on this new experience in hopes of future career opportunities. “Many of the job openings at my employer that interested me require project management certification or project management skills,” he said. “After talking with my academic adviser at PGS about Cornerstone’s project management certification prep courses, I decided to enroll.”
Even just partway through the course set, he’s noticed the opportunity for lasting transformation. “Having completed the first course, it is obvious that this curriculum will immediately provide real-world benefits.”
To take that next step in achieving PMP certification, students will continue on by completing the PMP certification exam at a certified testing location, as well as fulfill other requirements to confirm eligibility.
