At Cornerstone University, we are compelled and inspired by Jesus Christ. Chapel exists as an intentional space to gather together as a community in the midst of the busy seasons of college life. Cornerstone teaches its students to be thoughtful and intentional about their Christian growth, and chapel provides an opportunity to integrate faith and learning as a larger community.

Our traditional undergraduate chapel services use a lectionary adapted specifically for colleges by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church to study the large narrative of Scripture. On Nov. 1, Amanda Rohling will give a teaching based on Psalm 46.

Chapel services are open to prospective students and their families, alumni, friends of the university and members of the area community.

The chapel experience is central to the life of the Grand Rapids Theological Seminary learning community. Chapel provides opportunities to worship God as a graduate theological community, model biblical preaching and interact with ministry representatives.

Music Matters Lecture: Jeremy Verwys

Jeremy Verwys is a West Michigan musician, instructor and music therapist. He completed graduate degrees in guitar performance and music therapy at Illinois State University where he studied with Dr. Angelo Favis in guitar. He received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from Grand Valley State University, studying with Carlos De la Barrera and an associate degree from Grand Rapids Community College with instructors Andrew Bergeron and Brian Morris.

Jeremy has performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Calvin College Choral program, Hope College's Dance Program and the dance faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp where he was commissioned in 2015 and 2016 to compose and perform original works. He has participated in master classes with renowned guitarists Thomas Viloteau, Marcin Dylla, Rene Izquierdo, Johannes Möller and Jason Vieaux, along with private studies with Denis Azabagic and Adam Holzman.

Jeremy divides his time performing, as well as teaching and instructing music at Cornerstone University, as well as Triumph Music Academy in Grand Rapids, Mich., and is the co-owner of West Michigan Music Therapy, LLC.

You are invited to join us as Jeremy presents a lecture on the wonderful and growing profession of music therapy. This event is free and open to the public.

Michigan's economy is viewed differently from each side of the legislative aisle. Republicans believe their ideologies fuel our economic engine.
