For Matt Lewis (B.A. ’15), honey roasted barbecue is a mainstay. For Drew Lewis (B.A. ’16), it’s the classic Chick-fil-A sauce. Although their favorites are different, the couple is dedicated to the mission of Chick-fil-A restaurants—to bring customers the best experience possible.

In January 2021, the Lewises opened a new Chick-fil-A franchise in Norton Shores, Mich., after about two years of Matt working for the corporate offices in Atlanta, Ga. During that time, Matt gained experience in opening restaurants around the country, training employees and acting as interim manager for various locations.

“I’ve worked for Chick-fil-A since I was 16,” Matt said. “I loved the opportunity it had to have an impact on people, and it was something I was interested in pursuing.” Matt then worked at a location in Grand Rapids before relocating to Georgia.

The location in Norton Shores opened to cars lining up at the drive-thru before opening, with traffic spilling out into the road in anticipation. Even with many restaurant dining rooms closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening has been successful.

“Chick-fil-A gives opportunities to young leaders,” Matt said. “I was two years out of college when they gave me the opportunity to lead a team of 60 people. That’s something not a lot of people get.”
