Business beyond the classroom.

Executive Series

This series is focused on bringing in top-name executives who share their wisdom, life stories and business experiences with students. Former executive speakers include David Brandon, CEO of Domino's Pizza; Rick DeVos, founder of ArtPrize; Doug DeVos, President of Amway; Mark Peters, CEO of Butterball Farms; George Hartwell, Mayor of Grand Rapids; Justin Amash, U.S. Congressman; Michael Jandernoa, former CEO of Perrigo, and Mark Conklin, Senior Manager in Learning and Development at Chick-Fil-A.  This fall, Mark Murray, Co-CEO of Meijer was our guest speaker for the event.

Gordon Financial Seminar

This is a financial seminar only attended by business students enrolled in the Principles of Finance class, usually held in November. Speakers are Mr. Harvey Gainey, who in his retirement continues to operate Gainey Realty and Investment Corporation, and Mr. Steven Hawks, Senior V.P. and Director of Trust and Estate Services for Fifth Third Private Bank. Additionally, both serve on the Board of Trustees at Cornerstone University and provide students with many real-world examples of financial principles and living out their faith in the business world.

Business students and all students considering a business major or minor or who are "undecided" are welcome to attend this event. Come and meet the Division of Business professors, enjoy free food, and learn about integrating Christian faith in business. Students also have a chance to enter to win exciting door prizes or cash and interact with fellow business students. This fun and festive event is a favorite among students and is usually held in September.

Our Father's Business

The featured speaker is always a prominent business person and community leader, who successfully lives out their Christian faith in the workplace. These motivational and uplifting speaking events give students an opportunity to network with people in the business community. This year we had Paul Saber, CEO and President of US Manna Development Group, come to speak at this event.

Sigma Beta Delta

Sigma Beta Delta are the initial characters of the Greek words for wisdom, honor and meaningful aspirations.  Members are challenged to pursue wisdom, choose honor as a personal characteristic and chart a course of accomplishment and fulfillment.  Sigma Beta Delta requires that members be in the top 20 percent of the university GPA, have a major in business, and have junior or senior status. The Cornerstone University Chapter of the International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration was created in 2007. The first group of students was inducted on February 28, 2008. Family members are invited to witness the induction ceremony. This event is by invitation only and is held in December.

Business Division Advising Party

This event is held so that undecided students and students with a business major can meet one on one with their adviser to plan out their academic future at Cornerstone. Advisers help students design a class schedule that caters to each individual. Free pizza and pop make this event fun as well as productive.

Enactus is a student-led organization facilitated through the Division of Business. The mission of Cornerstone University's Enactus chapter is to utilize the talents and passions of Cornerstone’s student leaders to meet the needs of today in a manner that is sustainable for tomorrow.

mwest Challenge

The mwest challenge Business Model Design Competition brings entrepreneurial students from participating schools from West Michigan to compete for start up capital funding, and start a new venture. In addition to the $20,000 in cash prizes, students will have access to resources, mentors, educational workshops, and opportunities to network with angel and venture capital investors.

Project Management Institute

The West Michigan Project Management Institute annually poses a question to undergraduates in West Michigan, encouraging institutions to submit the best solution. Team members work alongside two project management mentors from the Project Management Institute to develop and present a project plan.

Graduate Reception

This graduation breakfast is held in April, to bring together and congratulate all graduating Business seniors. Great food, motivating speakers, and academic awards all combine to make this a memorable event for all.
