Career Services

Cornerstone University’s Career Services is dedicated to preparing students for meaningful work and opportunities to be bold, Christ-centered influencers in a wide variety of industries and ministries, or to continue their education.

The CU Advantage at Cornerstone provides deliberate career preparation by equipping students beyond the technical competencies of their academic majors to be problem solvers, able to work on diverse teams and lead with integrity within a moral framework rooted in the Christian Worldview.

To prepare Cornerstone students best, we collaborate with a nationally known employment agency to confirm what employers are asking for and provide students a Workplace Readiness Roadmap.

Cornerstone’s Workplace Readiness Roadmap documents the holistic preparation students receive throughout classroom learning, service learning, internship and experiential learning and co curricular training and leadership opportunities.

Problem Solving, Teamwork and Communication Skills

The CU Promise at Cornerstone provides deliberate career preparation by equipping students beyond the technical competencies of their academic majors to be problem solvers, able to work on diverse teams and lead with integrity and a moral framework rooted in the Christian Worldview.

Ready to Lead

Cornerstone prepares students to be Bold. Christ-centered. Influential. The Career Services team in partnership with the Office of Spiritual Formation & Christian Community offers the CU LEAD program: Learn. Engage. Acquire. Develop. Cornerstone students experience four years of intentional Christ-centered leadership development to prepare them with practical skills they need to succeed in their career, ministry and life. Through this journey, students receive leadership training tailored to their stage of growth. Most importantly, CU LEAD is rooted in Biblical leadership and character principles as image-bearers of Jesus Christ.

Faculty and Industry Mentorships

On-campus students are assigned a faculty mentor who models Christ-centered professionalism and intentionally connects them with industry partners and career professionals. Through these avenues of mentorship, students have opportunities for:

  • Career advice
  • Networking
  • Professional conference participation
  • Co-publishing
  • Internship supervision

Industry mentors are regularly invited to advise university curriculum, supervise internships and provide networking opportunities in their field.

Internships (For Employers)

An internship should be a win-win for the student and organization. The student has the opportunity for practical, hands-on experience while continuing to develop professional readiness while the organization benefits from the student’s work product.

At Cornerstone University, 100% of traditional undergraduate students complete an internship or practicum.

Employer Internship Expectations

Employer Internship Expectations

Internship supervisors should have at least two years of professional industry experience to help ensure a valuable learning experience for your organization and our students.

Position Description

Provide a written position description for the internship to the student during the interview process. Based on this internship description, each intern creates learning objectives in consultation with his or her Career Coach and Faculty Instructor. Your proposed position description should include:

  • Name of the organization and its location.
  • Overview of the position (e.g., preferred qualifications, roles and responsibilities).
  • Compensation (if applicable). According to the U.S. Department of Labor guidelines, internships may be full-time or part-time roles that are paid or voluntary.
  • Internship planning

Approval Process

Approval Process

You will receive an email from handshake@notifications.joinhandshake.com to confirm the internship. Add the email address to your contacts to ensure you receive the message and to prevent the message from going to your spam folder.

There’s no actual paperwork for you or the student to complete; it’s all done electronically. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the approval process.

The internship approval process begins with the student creating an experience in Handshake, which includes their resume, a detailed job description, and clearly defined goals. Following the submission and a required meeting with a Career Coach, the experience is reviewed for approval by the faculty instructor and the employer site supervisor. As part of the process, students are guided to effectively communicate their goals with their site supervisor to ensure a meaningful and productive internship experience.

Performance Evaluations

Performance Evaluations

Internship supervisors are expected to complete a mid-term and final evaluation. You will receive an email from handshake@notifications.joinhandshake.com requesting your feedback on their performance. The sender is Handshake and the subject line is “You have an evaluation to complete.”

In addition, you are encouraged to share your feedback with the student. They can’t grow without feedback. Your feedback makes a big difference. The student’s grade depends on you completing the mid-term and final evaluation.
