Cornerstone University Student Impacts Haiti During Internship
Cornerstone University student Claire DuBois is influencing our world for Christ while gaining real-world experience working in a developing country.
Claire is currently serving as a communications intern for the Samaritan’s Purse Haiti field office. Claire, a senior pursuing a degree in communications and writing, is Cornerstone’s first student to receive an internship with Samaritan’s Purse.
Claire’s responsibilities include field visits, photography, social media management, technical writing, copy editing, accumulating impact stories for the SP blog and other various communications and writing tasks.
The Haiti field office went into crisis mode following the devastation of Hurricane Matthew. Claire had the responsibility of updating the SP Haiti twitter account to keep Haiti’s needs in the news. Their office worked to be a resource to teams working in areas that were hit badly, says Claire. Normal work was put on hold in order to aid in recovery efforts. On top of the horrible damage caused by the Hurricane, there was a cholera outbreak, which Samaritan’s Purse handled at two different treatment centers. As a result, the outbreak has been, for the most part, contained.
Claire asks for prayer for her team, but also for the country as a whole. “Haiti needs prayers more than I do. Please pray for Samaritan’s Purse response efforts to be successful, for safe travel to the affected areas and for continued support from the US.
“There is so much need here, but it’s very difficult to respond, so we’re hoping and praying that God keeps guiding us and opening doors to bring in aid.”
