CU Offers Summer Online Classes

Cornerstone University will offer eight online courses this summer after last year’s successful pilot program of just four classes.

The summer courses are offered at a lower rate per credit and are convenient for students working through the summer.

CU administrators are hoping this helps students achieve their goals and balance their course loads during the academic year while saving money.

“We often hear student’s concerns and complaints concerning scheduling and availability,” said Martin Hughes, dean of undergraduate education. “This is a way to meet the need.”

There is a need for traditional undergraduate students who, for example, change their major or take a semester abroad, to catch up or get ahead on credits. For reasons of affordability, convenience and distance, CU has seen the benefits of offering online classes while students are away from campus.

Summer classes will run for eight weeks beginning June 1 to July 26.

Some classes are already full. Here is the complete list offered this summer and the availability:

• ENG-212: Writing in Culture (spaces available).
• HIS-114: World Civilizations II (full).
• LIN-100: Language in Culture (full).
• MAT-110: College Mathematics (spaces available).
• MGT-231: Principles of Management (spaces available).
• PSY-111 General Psychology (spaces available).
• SCI-311 Science in Culture (full).
• SOC-111 Introduction to Sociology (spaces available).

“The hope is that students will have the same opportunities to get to know their fellow classmates and professor,” said Hughes of the format of the classes.

Each class is being taught by a full-time Cornerstone professor who built the course-model used on campus. Professors hold and practice a Christian worldview and have a commitment to providing a high-quality experience.

“This online class format is attractive to students who are capable enough, mature enough and disciplined enough to be able to handle the additional flexibility,” said Hughes.
