At the start of each academic year, members of the campus community gather in Christ Chapel to reaffirm their commitment to build lives that matter and read aloud the community covenant.
Campus Community Covenant
As a community under the authority of Christ, we commit ourselves to serving together in ways that will bear witness to His reign in our midst. We will seek to reflect His will and His ways through our words, actions and attitudes so that our community will both express and experience the Kingdom blessings of Righteousness, Peace and Joy.
As God's Word teaches us,
"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son..." (Colossians 1:13)
"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit; whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by others. Let us then pursue what leads to peace and to building up one another." (Romans 14:17-19)
Therefore, as followers of Jesus,
We will live righteously by aligning our lives with the standards that God has lovingly revealed to us through His Word so that we may glorify Him as the wise and loving Lord over our community;
We will pursue peace by honoring one another regardless of our differences. In our personal relationships, we will extend the gifts of grace, mercy and forgiveness to the undeserving; we will believe the best of others; and we will speak well of each other so that we may bring His peace to our relationships;
We will contribute to a spirit of joy on our campus by blessing one another with acts of mutual service and sacrifice and by extending love and consideration to all regardless of position or rank so that we may flourish personally and professionally and that His joy may be full in our midst.
As faculty we will advance the presence of Christ in our community by honoring those with whom we serve. We will seek the best for our students by modeling Christ before them, challenging them to excel and treating them with respect. In our disciplines we will continually grow in knowledge and wisdom, and we will seek to nurture those qualities in our students.
As students we will bear witness to the reign of Christ on this campus through the diligent pursuit of our intellectual, emotional and spiritual maturity. We will respectfully seek out and receive the wisdom of the staff and faculty. We will pursue maturity in humility and integrity, and encourage those characteristics in our peers.
As staff we will reflect the heart of Christ as we faithfully serve in humility and respectfully collaborate with all members of the Cornerstone community. We will steward with integrity the resources of time, talent and treasure entrusted to us.
And now, Lord, we ask that Your righteousness, peace and joy will fill our community and bear witness to our desire to glorify Your name in our midst. Amen.
