Pack the House Night at Cornerstone University to Benefit the Philippines on November 29 and December 3

News November 13, 2023

Cornerstone University’s Golden Eagles invite students and the Grand Rapids community to come out and Pack the House to fight hunger in the Philippines this holiday season. There are several ways to participate in feeding families in need through two special events co-sponsored by Cornerstone University athletics and Friendship Sports International (FSI).

  • On November 29, come help pack the gym at Bernice Hansen Athletic Center’s Mol Arena and purchase T-shirts and special gear while cheering on the Golden Eagles women’s and men’s basketball teams. The double-header vs. Lourdes is 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Bob Wells from the West Michigan Whitecaps will engage fans throughout the game with fun competitions and giveaways. The goal is to raise $15,000.
  • Return on December 3 to pack 60,000 meals for families in the Philippines. Approximately 250 student and community volunteers are needed from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to pack meals in the Hansen Athletic Center on the campus of Cornerstone University.

“Our goal is to create an event that engages students and student-athletes to use their sport to give back to the greater community in a cause to help fight hunger,” said Matt Wallace, president Friendship Sports International.

Food will be distributed through International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES). International Disaster Emergency Service works with missionaries worldwide, supporting refugees caused by war, famine, and natural disasters.

Last year, over 50,000 meals were packed to support families in the Ukraine during this fun community holiday season volunteer event.
