Hi there G-L challengers. It’s been an exciting run so far with the Challenge and we are now on the final two weeks, with two great $15 gift cards left. This week’s question may take you back on memory lane. Are you ready to play?
Do you remember The W’s, the zany swing / ska group that made it big in the contemporary Christian music charts with the song “The Devil is Bad” back in the late nineties? While The Supertones and Five Iron Frenzy may have both had more successful careers, there was something downright fun and unique about the one hit wonder from Corvallis, Oregon. Worship Arts Majors know the need to be able to strike the right cultural chord, and if there was one thing The W’s did, it was that. Part of that was in choice of their name, nothing screams late nineteen nineties neo-swing more than “The W’s,” right? The group often was asked about the meaning of their name, and bass player Todd Gruener is quoted in explaining its meaning, or lack thereof.
