Cornerstone University Reports Record Attendees to This Year's Global Leadership Summit

News Aug. 23, 2017

On Aug. 10 and 11, Cornerstone University joined with over 450 other sites to host a live stream of Chicago-based Willow Creek Association’s annual Global Leadership Summit.

Designed around the idea that inspired, encouraged and equipped Christian leaders to create thriving communities and organizations, the Global Leadership Summit is a two-day event that seeks to inspire, encourage and equip Christian leaders to influence the world for Christ.

GLS reported that 160,000 people tuned in to the event in the United States last week, and an additional 240,000 will see it around the world in the coming days.

In West Michigan alone, 2,100 people were able to attend the GLS. Host sites included Kentwood Community Church and Central Wesleyan Church, as well as Cornerstone University’s own Christ Chapel.

Of the 2,100 West Michigan attendees, 613 people, a marked 21% increase over last year’s crowd, attended the GLS on Cornerstone’s campus. Out of the nearly 600 sites that hosted the GLS across the US, Cornerstone is grateful to be amongst the top 40 largest sites.

“Cornerstone is pleased to host the GLS as a way for us to reinforce our desired position in the marketplace as being an architect for thinking about Christian leadership,” Bob Sack, vice president for advancement, noted. “We also see it as an opportunity for CU students, faculty and staff to learn more about leadership and also to network with local professionals, and also because we at CU love having guests on campus.”

Featured speakers of this year’s GLS included Bill Hybels, Sheryl Sandberg, Marcus Buckingham, Bryan Stevenson, Juliet Funt, Marcus Lemonis, Angela Duckworth and more.

“The blend of business and non-profit speakers this year was outstanding. It provided very actionable points to apply immediately to the workplace as well as thought-provoking philosophies of leadership,” Sack commented.
