The Cornerstone women’s volleyball team completed their regular season on Thursday evening with a 3-1 win over the visiting Panthers of Davenport. The Golden Eagles began the night by honoring their six seniors and followed it up by winning the first two games by identical scores of 25-19. In game three, the Panthers made a late rally to take the win 25-23 after trailing early. In the final game of the match, both teams exchanged leads before Cornerstone took it for good and went on to win 25-22 to seal the victory.
Defense on both sides seemed to be the crowd pleaser as both teams came up with timely digs creating exciting volleys. CU seniors Marcie Blacquiere, Holly Cousins, and Morgan Pennington each collected 17 digs to lead the defensive charge. Senior Katie McKee also added eight blocks to defend the net while Blacquiere tallied 36 assists. Alicia TerHaar had another well rounded game with 17 kills, 16 digs, and six blocks.
With the win, the Golden Eagles locked up fourth place in the conference finishing with an 8-6 record in the WHAC. On Tuesday, Cornerstone will once again host the Panthers in the first round of the conference tournament. The match will begin at 7:00pm in Mol Arena.
