What is the deadline to apply for financial aid?

We encourage you to complete your FAFSA as soon as it becomes available each year which is typically October 1. How is my Student Aid Index (SAI) determined?

Your Student Aid Index (SAI) is calculated when you complete the FAFSA. It considers factors such as income, family size and other information reported on your application to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid.

Why was I selected for financial aid verification?

A small percentage of FAFSA applications are selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education. If you’re selected, Student Financial Services will contact you with instructions for submitting any additional documentation needed to complete your financial aid review.

What's the difference between federal and private student loans?

Federal student loans are available through the FAFSA and often provide borrower protections and flexible repayment options. Private student loans are offered by banks and other lenders, typically require a credit check and may require a cosigner. Most students should explore federal loan options before considering private loans.

What's the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans?

Subsidized loans are available to eligible undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need, and the federal government pays the interest while you’re enrolled at least half time. Unsubsidized loans are available to eligible students regardless of financial need, but interest begins accruing as soon as the loan is disbursed.

How long does it take to receive my financial aid offer?

Once you’ve been admitted and your FAFSA has been received, Student Financial Services will review your information and prepare your personalized financial aid offer. Processing times vary throughout the year, but you’ll be notified as soon as your financial aid package is ready to review.

What do I need to complete the FAFSA?

To complete the FAFSA, you’ll need an FSA ID. If you’re considered a dependent student, a parent or contributor will also need an FSA ID. You’ll use financial information from the required tax year identified on the FAFSA application.

Are additional scholarships available after I enroll?

Yes. Returning students may apply for donor-funded institutional scholarships. Applications typically open in December, with awards made for the following academic year.
