Cornerstone University Nursing Bachelor’s Program Awarded CCNE Accreditation

News Nov. 7, 2023

Cornerstone University’s pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program has received accreditation from the prestigious Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Cornerstone’s nursing bachelor’s degree program joins the 865+ colleges and universities nationwide accredited by the CCNE.

The accreditation process formally began in 2021 and included a complete self-study document outlining the program’s ability to meet the CCNE educational and student support standards. An on-site visit occurred March 15-17, 2023, which was part of the certification process to assess the program according to CCNE’s rigorous requirements. The five-year accreditation is retroactively effective March 15, 2023, and announced November 2. The first cohort of students will graduate May 2024. Cornerstone is currently accepting applications for January 2024 as well as fall entry with direct admission for high school seniors.

“Cornerstone University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is one of our most mission-aligned programs, equipping future nurses who are leaders and selfless influencers in every community,” said Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño, president of Cornerstone University. “Congratulations to our dedicated nursing faculty in achieving the CCNE accreditation, an important milestone and reflection of Christ-centered excellence in our expanding nursing program serving Michigan and beyond.”

“This designation supports the quality of our program and confirms that we are engaging in effective educational practices. It is also a reflection of the commitment and dedication of all involved in the development of the nursing program at Cornerstone,” said Misty Emmons, chief nursing administrator and assistant professor of nursing.

Cornerstone BSN students will receive training on campus in the university’s state-of-the-art nursing center housing high fidelity human simulators developed by CAE, a global leader in medical training technology. Off-campus students engage in diverse clinical experiences at sites, including Corewell Health, Trinity Health, and Pine Rest, among others.

BSN faculty and staff bring years of relevant experience from the bedside, academics, and advanced practice. Their hands-on, interactive teaching styles prepare graduates for the NCLEX-RN® licensure exam and a rewarding calling to competently care for others.

“We are excited to offer students an academically excellent nursing education that meets national standards while maintaining the ability to challenge future nurses to view their patients and their profession through a Biblical worldview,” said Emmons.

Career paths for BSN graduates are expansive, including in medical settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices. BSN graduates can pursue careers as nurse educators, health policy nurses, nurse recruiters, forensic nurses, clinical research nurses or nurse health coaches. The degree also prepares students to pursue graduate education in the future.

Cornerstone’s School of Health, Science & Technology also offers outstanding bachelor’s degree programs in pre-pharmacy, pre-medical, pre-physician’s assistant, pre-dental, biology and kinesiology programs, all taught from a biblically orthodox Christian worldview to prepare graduates to lead and serve communities with heart and skill.
