Linguistics Minor

LIN-225: Introduction to Linguistics

Explore the structure and nature of human language, including language variation, acquisition, and change, using scientific methods and data from English and other languages.

LIN-323: Phonetics & Phonology

Study how speech sounds are produced, perceived, and organized, examining the acoustic features and sound patterns that shape language systems.

LIN-325: Morphology & Syntax

Analyze how words and sentences are formed by studying word-building processes, morphological patterns, and the grammatical structures that shape sentence design.

LIN-461: Linguistic Analysis

Apply analytical tools to phonology, morphology, and syntax using data from diverse languages, developing both practical description skills and deeper theoretical understanding.

Students may select two electives that deepen their study of grammar, language technology, language learning, cultural variation, or the history of English.
