Cornerstone University Grieves the Loss of Student Joshua Darst
It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of one of our dear students, senior Joshua Darst. Joshua, a business management student and member of our baseball team, suffered a tragic accident while working in Cincinnati this week. The university stands in support, prayer and deepest condolences with Joshua’s family and his friends and teammates here at Cornerstone.
I encourage all of us to remain in prayer for the family and for each other during this time of grieving and loss. Students are also encouraged to seek support from the counseling services team at The Well and with any members of the university’s campus ministries team now and in the days to come.
Head Baseball Coach Chuck Lowitzki shared this with us about Joshua (JD): “In coaching, you’re not supposed to have favorites … but JD was one of mine. I’ve rarely encountered a young man that could connect with everyone so well. JD exuded joy and made each person he met feel like the most important person in the room. He was able to lift people up when they needed it while expressing real empathy. JD was kind, caring, intelligent, and he loved others the way Jesus does. He was truly one of the best of us, and it was a precious gift to get to know him.”
Let’s continue to uphold each other in prayer, love, and support during this very difficult time. And let’s be in much prayer for the Darst Family.
In Christ,
Gerson Moreno-Riaño, Ph.D.
