Kiera Potter

Kiera Potter, M.S.N., serves as an assistant professor of nursing in Cornerstone University’s School of Health, Science & Technology. An accomplished nurse educator with extensive clinical expertise in maternal-newborn nursing, Potter brings years of experience caring for patients in labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn and medical-surgical settings, including high-risk care. She applies that expertise and evidence-based practices to develop students’ clinical judgment, patient assessment, decision-making and hands-on nursing skills, preparing them for the demands and responsibilities of professional nursing.

Potter earned her Master of Science in Nursing – Education from Chamberlain University, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dordt University and her Associate of Science in Nursing from St. Luke’s College of Nursing. Before joining Cornerstone, she served as assistant professor of nursing at Trinity Christian College and clinical instructor at Elmhurst University.

At Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Potter spent years in labor and delivery and postpartum care, including high-risk cases, newborn recovery and patient education in labor, breastfeeding and postpartum care. Previously, at Advocate Christ Medical Center, she provided postpartum and newborn care and cared for medical-surgical and rehabilitation patients.

As a nurse educator, Potter emphasizes mastery of foundational nursing concepts so students can understand abnormal findings within the context of normal function. Through active learning and simulation, she helps students develop clinical judgment and collaborative practice while transferring classroom knowledge to simulation and ultimately to clinical practice.

Potter approaches nursing education as deeply rooted in displaying and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Her leadership and service in nursing, church and community settings reflect that commitment. That commitment extends to offering students a Biblically grounded education that prepares highly competent, compassionate nurses to care for every person as created in the image of God and navigate complex decisions with Christ-centered judgment.
