Back to Back: Cornerstone University Men’s Basketball Claims Second Straight WHAC Tournament Title
For the second consecutive year, the Cornerstone University Men’s Basketball team is bringing home hardware to Mol Arena and punching its ticket to the NAIA National Tournament! In a thrilling championship showdown, the Golden Eagles defeated Indiana Tech in overtime, securing a 79-71 victory and avenging two regular-season losses.
Senior guard Blake Stewart (’25) led Cornerstone with 17 points, and the game featured a total team effort, with five players scoring eight or more points to help erase an eight-point halftime deficit. For head coach Kim Elders, the accolades continue to pile up — Tuesday’s victory marked his 23rd WHAC regular season or tournament title and his 797th career win.
The Golden Eagles now turn their focus to the NAIA National Tournament, with the selection show set for March 6 at 8 p.m. Their first-round matchup is scheduled for March 14.
Men’s Basketball wasn’t the only team making headlines though! Track and Field wrapped up its indoor season at NAIA Nationals, with nine Golden Eagles earning All-American honors. Men’s Volleyball is in the midst one of their strongest seasons in program history, sitting at 13-3 and currently ranked #5 in the nation. Meanwhile, Women’s Basketball made a strong run to the WHAC Tournament finals, falling just short while capping off an impressive season.
Congratulations to all of our student-athletes for their energy and dedication — keep it up, Golden Eagles!
