Biology Professor Presents Radiation Research at Conference

News June 1, 2015

Professor of Biology, Dr. Nigel Crompton, has been accepted as one of 50 participants to present at the upcoming Integrated course in Biology and Physics of Radiation Oncology (IBPRO) 2015 Conference.

The annual event is a collaboration with Wayne State University’s College of Education and School of Medicine. It is funded and supported by the NCI Center for Cancer Training.

Those accepted to attend are clinicians, physicists and biologists who will hear five days of experts presenting knowledge, experience, insight and ideas for future research and treatment approaches in new and innovative ways.

Dr. Crompton will present a poster on his research in radiation oncology titled “Radiation-induced pathophysiology: Kinetics of radiation-induced apoptosis in T cells.”

“The invitation to present at IBPRO is a gracious gesture on the part of the organizers of the meeting as it is limited and select in attendance,” said Crompton. “The conference offers a unique opportunity for me to catch up with contemporary clinical developments in my specialty field of radiation biology.”

Dr. Crompton, who is fluent in German, earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Manchester University in Manchester, United Kingdom. He received his doctorate from Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, and his D.Sc. from Zurich University in Zurich, Switzerland.

At Cornerstone, Dr. Crompton teaches biology, genetics, molecular cell biology, bioethics, evolution and origins and neuroscience.

His professional interests include cancer research, radiation and genetics. He has published more than 100 scientific papers, half of which are featured in peer-reviewed science journals. He also developed a biomedical test to predict the severity of patient response to cancer therapy.
