Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Engineering
Francis Edoziuno, Ph.D., serves as assistant professor of engineering in Cornerstone University’s School of Health, Science & Technology. With expertise spanning mechanical, materials and metallurgical engineering, computational modeling and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in engineering, Dr. Edoziuno brings a passion for engineering and a personal investment in the students he teaches. He prepares students to move confidently from engineering theory to design, testing and practical application while introducing them to technologies changing the profession. Drawing on his experience in research, industry and engineering education, he gives students a clear view of professional engineering and how the decisions engineers make affect the people who depend on their work.
Dr. Edoziuno draws on laboratory and industry experience to connect what students learn with the demands of professional practice. At CT Plasma Technologies, he tested plasma-coated aerospace components and conducted materials characterization and mechanical testing. His work required the quality, accuracy and attention to safety expected in professional engineering — principles he carries into the classroom. His research in high-performance alloys, composites and corrosion further helps students understand how material properties and engineering decisions affect the safety, durability and performance of real-world designs.
Dr. Edoziuno has an extensive record of engineering scholarship, with 54 listed scholarly publications, seven contributed book chapters and more than 150 verified peer reviews completed for scholarly journals. His work spans high-performance alloys, composites, corrosion, computational materials science, predictive modeling and process optimization, with book chapters published by CRC Press, Elsevier/Woodhead Publishing and IntechOpen. His research has earned three best-paper awards, including the Cogent Engineering Best Paper Award in Materials Engineering, and he has contributed to three funded research projects as a principal investigator or co-investigator.
That research experience also reaches students directly. Dr. Edoziuno has supervised more than 15 undergraduate research theses, helping students investigate engineering problems, test ideas and draw sound conclusions from results. His expertise includes predictive modeling and machine learning applications in materials science, supported by advanced Engineering AI training through the University of Connecticut in AI and machine learning fundamentals, natural language processing and Python-based data preparation for AI applications. He also applied his engineering expertise at TELUS Digital to technical content development, AI-assisted validation and AI training datasets. These experiences allow him to introduce students to computational and AI tools changing engineering practice while developing the engineering judgment to use them responsibly.
Dr. Edoziuno earned his Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria. He completed advanced training in engineering AI through the University of Connecticut Center for Advanced Engineering Education and is a Certified Registered Materials & Metallurgical Engineer through the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. Before joining Cornerstone, he taught ABET-accredited mechanical engineering courses at the University of Hartford and contributed to curriculum development and ABET outcome assessment.
For Dr. Edoziuno, teaching engineering is about more than preparing students to enter a profession. He wants to know his students personally, help them recognize their God-given abilities and prepare them to use those abilities well. He sees engineering as a vocation through which they can love their neighbors, protect human life, care for creation and develop responsible solutions to real needs. That conviction is reflected in what he teaches about safety, accuracy, integrity and stewardship and in the kind of engineers he wants his students to become: technically prepared, committed to serving others and ready to honor Jesus Christ through their work.
