Tim Reynhout
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Timothy A. Reynhout, Ph.D., serves as assistant professor of mathematics in Cornerstone University’s School of Health, Science & Technology. Throughout his work in mathematics education, Dr. Reynhout has focused on helping students understand challenging mathematical concepts, strengthen their problem-solving skills and become more confident mathematical thinkers. His approach draws on university teaching, tutoring and academic support, using teaching methods and technology to help students engage more fully with mathematics.
Before joining Cornerstone, Dr. Reynhout served as assistant professor of mathematics at Concordia University Ann Arbor, where he taught mathematics, advised students and chaired the Assessment Committee for Student Learning. His work in mathematics education includes studying how technology and different approaches to instruction can support student learning and help students focus more closely on understanding mathematical ideas.
Dr. Reynhout’s scholarly work includes geometry and topology. During his doctoral studies, he spent five weeks at the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris, France, attending a lecture series on topological recursion that deepened his knowledge of his research field and provided opportunities for collaboration. His research presentations have addressed topics including open Riemann surfaces, ribbon graph complexes, geodesics and algebra.
At Cornerstone, Dr. Reynhout helps students see mathematics as more than numbers, formulas and equations. He develops the logical thinking, problem-solving and ability to work accurately with data that prepare students for careers across science, technology, business, health care and other fields. His courses connect mathematics to the order and complexity of God’s creation, giving students a Biblical foundation for understanding what they are learning and how they can use their knowledge and God-given abilities with wisdom and skill in their careers and in service to others.
