Known for his scholarship on Paul’s letters and theology, Dr. Timothy Gombis, professor of New Testament, inspires seminarians to develop canonical wisdom and a new awareness of how to interact with the Bible. He teaches courses in biblical hermeneutics, biblical theology and New Testament exegesis for Grand Rapids Theological Seminary.

Dr. Gombis earned a doctoral degree in New Testament Studies from the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland. His thesis examined the topic of “The Triumph of God in Christ: Divine Warfare in the Argument of Ephesians,” an area of study he further advanced in his second book titled “The Drama of the Ephesians: Participating in the Triumph of God” (IVP Academic, 2010).

A native of Chicago and loyal Cubs fan, Dr. Gombis is an experienced pastor, active blogger and approachable professor who has taught graduate-level seminary courses since 2011. His professional memberships include the Society of Biblical Literature, Tyndale Fellowship and Institute for Biblical Research.
