Kyle Steigenga Named 1st Team Academic All-American

News March 9, 2017

Cornerstone University junior Kyle Steigenga is more than a good student and basketball player. Named a CoSIDA 1st Team All-American for 2016-17, Steigenga is proud to play as a Golden Eagle.

“I’ve always known that I wanted to play basketball at the college level and be a teacher and coach in my career,” Steigenga said. “Cornerstone gave me the opportunity to pursue both of these things while keeping me close to home.”

Steigenga cited CU’s professors as one of his favorite parts of the university.

“I appreciate that their doors are always open and that they try their best to support me in whatever way they can-whether that be helping me to to choose classes or make career recommendations,” Steigenga said. “It’s also great that they go the extra mile and show up at basketball games and other events to support their students.”

Steigenga, who has also scored over 2,000 points in his career and was named a WHAC Player of the Year, likes the Christian school atmosphere that CU has offers.

“I’m proud that every time that our team steps on the court to play the game we love, we work hard and play with integrity and good sportsmanship,” Steigenga said.
