Local Colleges Collaborate to Encourage Students to Explore Grand Rapids

News Sept. 11, 2017

Cornerstone University is one of 10 local universities partnering together for GR101 College Week, a weeklong event that encourages students to explore downtown Grand Rapids and discover all of the unique and intriguing attractions that our community has to offer.

GR101 College Week ’17 will take place on Sept. 11-17. Sponsors such as John Ball Zoo, the Rapid, Circle Theatre, Peppino’s, Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), ArtPrize and more have teamed up to offer discounts for students on cultural attractions, restaurants, events and transportation.

GR101 College Week events aim to gather students from the community in collaboration. For example, on Sept. 14 at 8 p.m., college students from all over West Michigan are invited to gather at the Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) student plaza for a free screening of “Wonder Woman,” complete with popcorn courtesy of GRCC student life. And on Sept. 15, GR101 College Week will host Connect GR, a networking event at Grand Rapids Public Library. Employers such as Heart of West Michigan United Way, New Holland Brewing Co., Steelcase, GE Design, GE Aviation, Founders Brewing Company, Spectrum Health, Meijer and AHC+Hospitality will be available to share information about jobs and internships.

“This is a great opportunity for collaboration amongst higher education institutions and Cornerstone is happy to be a part of it,” said Jordan Grooters (B.A. ’17), communications coordinator at Cornerstone. “We all want to see our students thrive in this community and embrace the culture of Grand Rapids.”
