Your Vocation in Motion
Your skills in physical therapy go beyond a career. At Cornerstone, we believe you were designed for a purpose—to use your gifts and talents to bring God’s kingdom here on earth.
When athletes get injured, the first person they turn to is a physical therapist. Physical therapists have the knowledge and skills to bring them back to peak performance. Even after a minor or major surgery, people need physical therapists to gain full motion back in their bodies. The pre-physical therapy major at Cornerstone University prepares you to bring both compassion and care to your patients.
As a student in the exercise science: pre-physical therapy program, you will take six courses that act as prerequisites for most physical therapy graduate programs in Michigan. You can also tailor your classroom experience to reflect your own research interests and career goals.
When you graduate from the pre-physical therapy program at Cornerstone, you’ll be prepared to continue your education and become an experienced practitioner.
As a student at Cornerstone, you have the opportunity to take part in an internship that will supplement your education in the classroom. Here are some of the places our students intern at.
Of 2019 pre-physical therapy graduates were employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months.
Of traditional undergraduate graduates from the class of 2021 were employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months.
Of students participate in internship or practicum experiences.

Choose one of the following mathematics courses.
MAT-121 College Algebra
College Algebra introduces the study of polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions, in addition to the quadratic formula, geometric series, binomial series, systems of equations and probability.
MAT-122 Pre-calculus
This course serves as a collection of topics relevant to calculus-based courses. Focus will be given on exponential and logarithmic functions in addition to properties, graphs and applications of the sine, cosine and tangent functions, along with their reciprocals and inverse functions. Connections are made with right and oblique triangles, polar coordinates and equations concerning polar coordinates and conic sections.
MAT-131 Calculus I
The study of rates of change for polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, tangent lines, graphs, maximum values and areas. Applications of calculus will be modeled with graphing calculators.
Choose one of the following chemistry courses.
CHM-111 Principles of General Chemistry
Investigates properties of substances and the changes they can undergo. Special emphasis on laws of chemical combination, theories of atomic structure, periodic trends, kinetics, thermodynamics and chemical and physical equilibria. Explores proper biblical stewardship in chemical manufacturing, disposal and use.
CHM-121/122 General Chemistry I & II
CHM-121 General Chemistry I: Investigation of the composition and properties of substances and the changes they can undergo. Special emphasis on laws of chemical combination, theories of atomic structure, periodic trends, gas properties and thermodynamics, as well as activities to communicate the centrality of chemistry to historical development, modern civilization and life itself. Explores proper biblical
stewardship in chemical manufacturing, disposal and use.
CHM-122 General Chemistry II: A continuation of CHM-121 with emphasis on reaction types and rates, electrochemistry, equilibria, group properties, nuclear
chemistry and qualitative analysis. Addresses environmental concerns and safe handling and disposal of chemicals. Applications of chemical concepts to daily life are emphasized throughout the course.
