The Spanish Minor at Cornerstone University cultivates strong language proficiency and cultural understanding for careers in education, healthcare, ministry, business and community leadership. Students may complete the General Spanish Minor, or choose Spanish for Elementary Teachers or Spanish for Secondary Teachers, each designed to build confidence in classroom communication and instructional readiness — all grounded in a Christian perspective that shapes how you learn, lead and serve others.

Program Courses

Learn the core practices and principles of Spanish language acquisition offered through three tracks: General Spanish, Spanish for Elementary Teachers and Spanish for Secondary Teachers.

Spanish Minor

SPA-201: Intermediate Spanish I

Strengthen Spanish grammar and vocabulary and improve speaking, listening, reading and writing. Engage cultural topics to grow clarity and natural fluency in everyday communication.

SPA-222: Literary Analysis

Study poems, stories, and short films while expanding your literary vocabulary and sharpening your ability to analyze narratives in Spanish.

SPA-223: Spanish for Professions

Develop industry-specific vocabulary and practical communication skills for working with Spanish-speaking communities in professional settings.
(Prerequisite: SPA-102 or one 200-level Spanish course)

SPA-313: Spanish Conversation and Composition I

Refine advanced grammar, vocabulary, and oral fluency through focused speaking and writing practice. Examine linguistic variation across the Spanish-speaking world to enhance clarity and adaptability.

SPA-323: Spanish Conversation and Composition II

Advance grammar, vocabulary, and oral fluency through speaking and writing focused on opinion and essay work. Explore linguistic variation to strengthen precision and range. (Prerequisite: SPA-201 or equivalent proficiency)

Students will choose one elective that offer additional practice in conversation, culture, literature or Hispanic civilization.

LIN-225: Introduction to Linguistics

Explore the structure and nature of human language, including language variation, acquisition, and change, using scientific methods and data from English and other languages.
