Cornerstone Enactus Student Receives National Recognition

News May 21, 2018

Cornerstone University student Zachariah Nyp (B.S. ’19) has been named a national finalist for the 2018 Project Leader of the Year award through Enactus United States.

According to the Enactus United States’ website, “Enactus is an international organization that connects student, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities.” The purpose of the 2018 project leader of the year award is “to motivate and reward excellence in leadership, and share best practices by example.”

The Cornerstone Enactus team serves as an excellent example of collaboration and leadership opportunities that make an impact in this world. Rachel Hammond, chair of the Business Division and one of the Cornerstone Enactus faculty advisers, says, “Zach is well deserving of the Project Leader of the Year National Finalist honor he received. Over the past year, he worked tirelessly as both the president of our Cornerstone Enactus team and as a project leader of three of our team’s projects. What I admire most about Zach’s efforts is that he does not settle for anything less than excellence for himself and others, and that he is always looking for ways to innovate and grow our projects. I’m excited that he is getting recognized for his hard work.”

Nyp, a double major in computer information systems and business management, led three projects this year, including two new projects. One of the projects that he led was the EsperanzArt project.

In 2014, Casa Adalia opened its doors as a home for girls 18-24 years old in Quito, Ecuador, who desperately needed hope and healing. Cornerstone alumna Amy Eitrhem has been working with Casa Adalia since graduating in 2015. EsperanzArt is a jewelry-making workshop within the walls of Casa Adalia.

The Cornerstone Enactus team first connected with Amy and EsperanzArt through selling $747 worth of their products at the last two International Artisan Market events. Under Nyp’s leadership, the Cornerstone Enactus team was able to sell their products at this year’s market, make plans to market the products within the U.S., connect with local stores and launch an online store.

The other projects that he led involved a micro-loan project, providing loans to entrepreneurs in the Ivory Coast and a Teacher Technology Seminar for Cornerstone professors.

Nyp was recognized for his award at the 2018 Enactus United States National Exposition in Kansas City. He is one of seven presentation team members and he serves as president of the leadership team.
