Mezzo-soprano Heather McCallum is a six-time NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) first place winner and the recipient of the Irma Cooper “Most Promising” award. Most recently, Heather took second place in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition.  She earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Hope College and her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Michigan State University.

Heather has taught music and private voice across West Michigan. She has taught or assisted in several schools, including Calvary Christian, West Michigan Christian, Mona Shores, West Ottawa, Grand Haven, Muskegon, as well as Michigan State University College of Music, Hope College and Muskegon Community College. She has also taught for Muskegon Civic Theatre’s Education Division.

Heather appeared as the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Annina in La Traviata with Opera Grand Rapids. At MSU, Heather appeared in the roles of Fiordiligi, Cosi fan tutte; Mimi, La Boheme; and Third Lady, Die Zauberflöte. Heather also appeared with Muskegon Civic Theatre and Central Park Players, as music director for the Michigan premieres of Pinkalicious the Musical and How I Became a Pirate, as well as on the stage. Some roles include The Lady of the Lake in Monty Python’s Spamalot {2018}, Princess Fred in Once Upon a Mattress (2009), Fritzie in Cabaret (2007), Lala in The Last Night of Ballyhoo (2007), Meg Brockie in Brigadoon (2007), The Sour Kangaroo in Seussical the Musical (2006), and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast (2006).

Heather and her husband, Scott, live in Norton Shores with their two boys, Soren and Magnus. They are small group leaders and active members of Harvest Spring Lake/Grand Haven where she serves on the worship team as a vocalist and coach.
