Coaching

A minor in coaching from Cornerstone University can supplement a number of different majors. This minor is designed to give you the tenacity to lead teams on and off the field and inspire the best in your players. Through this program, you will learn how to effectively coach a team with precision, technique, skill and attentiveness.

Course List

A minor in coaching is a great complement to sport management or other kinesiology programs and can add an edge to your resume. Graduates with a coaching minor often find themselves in leadership positions on and off the field.

BIO-242 Anatomy and Physiology II

A systems approach to the structure and function of the human body with special emphasis on disease process as it relates to dysfunction, along with practical applications for a life-style of healthful living. Includes cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, lymphatic, urinary and reproductive systems. Laboratory experiences will use microscopic and lab animal investigation. Stresses the homeostatic function and intricacy of the body and its analogies to the Body of Christ, the church.

KIN-231 Principles of Coaching

The study of the nature and responsibilities of the profession of coaching. Topics include philosophy of coaching, the coach and his/her personality, the athlete and his/her personality, communication, team cohesion, motivation, discipline, teaching techniques and scouting.

KIN-341 Anatomical Kinesiology

This course is designed as a functionally specific approach to the musculoskeletal system. Emphasis will be placed on the qualitative analysis and description of human movement.

KIN-342 Exercise Physiology

A study of the physiological responses of the healthy human body to exercise. This course includes topics such as energy systems, nutrition, conditioning, exercise testing and exercise prescriptions.

KIN-362 First Aid and Injury Prevention

Basic principles of injury prevention and care, first aid principles of prevention, injury evaluation and current rehabilitation methods are taught. The student will have active participation in caring for various injuries.

KIN-370 Practicum in Coaching

With a minor in coaching, you will complete a coaching practicum, allowing you to experience the coaching role under the direction of a full-time head coach in the sport and setting of your choice.

For example, you may choose to study with a head coach of a youth sport community program in soccer or a head coach of a middle school or high school athletics program.

I thought I had my plan figured out, but Cornerstone showed me I was capable of more. I learned that true dedication means finding satisfaction in hard work, because through your career and your service, someone will be blessed.
