Ty Mason Appointed as
Chair of Cornerstone
University Alumni Board

News July 9, 2021

The Cornerstone University Alumni Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Ty Mason (B.S. ’15) as chair of Cornerstone’s alumni board. Mason will be stepping into the role as long-time chair Richard Koole (B.R.E. ’70) transitions into another role on the board.

Koole has served Cornerstone in many capacities over the years and will continue to serve on the board of trustees of Cornerstone University where he chairs the Governance Committee. He’s been instrumental in casting a vision for the CU Alumni Association as well as the university. His experience in both education administration and pastoral ministry and his ability to think analytically and creatively has provided great opportunities for growth.

“It has been an absolute honor to serve Cornerstone in this capacity,” Koole said. “I’m excited to see where Ty will lead the board and how they will guide our university into the future.”

Mason graduated from Cornerstone with a degree in finance and sports management. He currently serves as a business banking relationship manager at Huntington Bank in the West Michigan region, assisting businesses and nonprofits in achieving their goals by offering guidance and support as well as various banking and financial services.

While at Cornerstone, Mason was a member of the men’s basketball team at Cornerstone from 2011-15 and was the captain of the National Championship team in 2015.

“Cornerstone was and is such an important part of my life,” Mason said. “I am a believer that the people of Cornerstone is what makes it such a special place. As chair of the alumni board, I hope to help keep other alumni like me stay connected to our community, no matter where they are.

Mason is married to Katelyn, who is also a Cornerstone graduate and former All-American for the women’s basketball team. Katelyn currently works as a sales and marketing support specialist at Kraft Business Systems and serves as the assistant varsity girls’ basketball coach at Forest Hills Central with her twin sister. They reside in Grand Rapids, Mich., with their four-year-old son, Isaiah, and twin two-year-old boys, Ezekiel and Jameson.

The Cornerstone Alumni Association board is composed of up to 20 members, representing various graduation years, degrees and affinity groups.

Alumni who are looking for ways to get involved at CU are encouraged to contact the CU Alumni Association at alumni@cornerstone.edu or by phone at 616.222.1439.
