BSN Program Admission

The BSN admission process is designed to look at your college academic performance, your personal and professional experience, and your aptitude for providing high-quality patient care.

Cornerstone offers three types of program admission: Early Admission, Direct Admission and General Admission. Read more below.

Early Admission

High school students who have taken select AP and college-level courses may qualify for early admission. Students awarded early admission will be given a guaranteed spot in the nursing program and will start nursing courses during the second semester of freshman year with the potential to complete their BSN degree within 3 ½ years.

Qualifications:

  • High school cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Program admission interview with the Nursing Department.

Priority consideration will be given to students who submit their BSN program application by December 1.

Apply for Early BSN Admission

Early admission recipients should submit ACT or SAT scores to be placed into the required first-semester English and math courses. Test scores are as follows:

  • English Subscore: ACT 25 or SAT 630
  • Math Subscore: ACT 21 or SAT 530

Direct Admission

High school students selected for direct admission receive a guaranteed spot in the BSN program with nursing classes beginning the first or second semester of your sophomore year.

Qualifications:

  • High school cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Program admission interview with the Nursing Department.

Priority consideration will be given to students who submit their BSN program application by December 1.

NUR-201 Foundations of Nursing (3 Credits)

This didactic course will introduce students to the vocational and professional aspects of nursing care and provide a basis of understanding of topics including professional writing, dosage calculation, medical terminology and nursing study and testing strategies. Prerequisite: None

NUR-231 Pathophysiology (3 Credits)

This didactic course relates disease manifestation and risk factors regarding the underlying illness or injury as it relates to nursing interventions. Must be in the BSN program. Prerequisite: Take MAT-108, ENG-212, COM-112, BIO-151, BIO-241 and BIO-242 Must be accepted into the BSN program.

NUR-243 Nursing Skills Lab (2 Credits)

This lab course focuses on establishing emerging principles of safety and quality in nursing and health care as an essential component of skill obtainment and practice. Prerequisite: Take NUR-221, 241 and NUR-242

NUR-251 Mental Health Nursing (3 Credits)

This didactic course explores evidence-based practice and historically relevant mental health concepts. Students have the opportunity to explore therapeutic communication and interviewing strategies. Prerequisite: Take NUR-252 concurrently

NUR-341 Adult Health Nursing I (3 Credits)

This didactic course discusses teamwork across professions and with care team members, patients, families, and communities to optimize care, enhance the experience, improve outcomes, and reduce costs. Prerequisite: Take PSY-235 and successfully complete all previous NUR courses, Take NUR-342 concurrently.

NUR-346 Pharmacology I (3 Credits)

This didactic course focuses on the basic drug classification, concepts and principles of pharmacology with special consideration for the nurse’s role. Prerequisite: Take CHM-110, BIO-352 (or BIO-171) and all previous NUR courses

NUR-357 Nursing Ethics (2 Credits)

This didactic course allows formation and cultivation of a sustainable professional nursing identity, accountability, perspective, collaborative disposition and comportment that reflects nursing’s characteristics, norms and values. Prerequisite: Complete all previous NUR courses

NUR-441 Maternal/Ped Health Nursing (4 Credits)

This didactic course focuses on the health care needs of the pediatric population.

Prerequisite: Complete all previous NUR courses, Take NUR-442 concurrently

Transfer Course Credits

We accept the transfer of any pre-requisite or core curriculum courses. We do not accept the transfer of any nursing (NUR) courses.

In order to ensure that a student is appropriately equipped to successfully engage in the nursing program, the following courses are prerequisites for the nursing program.

*To receive credits towards the BSN degree, the prerequisites/corequisites that are required must have been completed in the last five years from the date of starting the nursing program, with a minimum of a 2.0 (C) grade.

Please note: Pathophysiology is a course specific to Cornerstone’s nursing program (NUR 231: Pathophysiology) and must be completed at Cornerstone
