Professional Writing Minor

ENG-227: Introduction to Professional Writing

Explore the principles and practice of professional writing, including rhetorical strategies, document design, technical and business writing, and public communication. Students research, plan, draft, design, and evaluate workplace documents across a variety of real-world writing situations.

ENG-313: Feature Writing

Analyze feature story formats and techniques while developing publishable articles for print or digital media.

ENG-317: Creative Non-Fiction

Practice writing prose that blends elements of journalism, storytelling, and personal essay to create engaging, true-to-life narratives.

ENG-329: Selected Topics in Professional Writing

Investigate rotating topics in professional writing, such as technical communication or writing for digital platforms.

ENG-380: Internship

Gain supervised, hands-on experience in a professional writing setting through academic credit and collaboration with an approved internship site.

Students will select one elective in their area of interest, choosing from courses that explore publishing, editing, advanced composition, newswriting or grant writing.
