Credits

Prior Learning Credit

Your work and effort outside the classroom matter. Beyond the college credits you’ve acquired, you may be equipped with additional credentials and experiences that could count toward your bachelor’s degree. Discover how your educational pathway can be supplemented by your prior learning and professional experiences through this video.

Learning Venues

Students may earn potential college credit if they are able to document learning that has resulted from participating in workshops, seminars, license acquisition, professional schools or other significant learning experiences. Submissions must include a petition for credit as well as all required documentation as listed below.

Where do I start?

Contact your academic adviser to determine how prior learning credit can best work for you.

Can anyone petition for credits?

Only students registered at Cornerstone University who have completed at least three credits of course work at Cornerstone University may petition for credits.

What is the cost?

Students must complete the Prior Learning Online Seminar ($50) and pay an evaluation fee ($50) for each petition submitted. An additional $50 fee is required for each re-submitted petition.

How many potential credits can be earned?

A maximum of 30 credits may be possible through prior learning.

How are prior learning credits used to help students complete requirements?

Credits awarded are usually elective credits; however, general education credits are possible with the appropriate training or experiences. Consult your academic adviser for information.

What determines an applicant’s success?

An applicant’s success in receiving maximum credit for work, training or life experience depends upon how thoroughly the petition meets the standard. The petition must also be well organized and demonstrate college-level writing.

How long is the evaluation process?

Depending upon the time of year the petition is submitted, the evaluation process will take
approximately two to four weeks.
