Dr. Jenny Chien is an assistant professor of counseling at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, and her ongoing desire to learn drives her to be an informed and passionate counselor and teacher. She typically teaches courses such as Counseling Ethics and Issues, Diagnostic and Clinical Assessment of Mental Disorders and Practicum.

Dr. Chien received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Maine and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University. She received her Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University. The title of her dissertation was “The Relationship of Perceived Stress, Religious Coping Styles and Mental Health Symptoms in University Students.”

Dr. Chien is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan and Florida as well as a Qualified Supervisor in Florida. Her greatest teachers are her two children, who inspire and encourage her daily.

“I am a firm believer that all mental health symptoms make sense. Our calling as counselors is to explore the underlying reasons why symptoms are present and maintained and to offer our clients alternatives that bring healing.”
