Dr. David Yandl enjoys an active career as educator and performer on flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone. He has performed with the Boise Philharmonic, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Jackson Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, West Point Army Band and many other ensembles nationwide. As a chamber musician, he was a semi-finalist in the 2006 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and his performances have been broadcast live on WFMT 98.7 (Chicago). During an eight-week run as soloist on flute, clarinet and saxophone in “Tomorrow Morning: The Musical,” the show was named “Critic’s Pick” by the Chicago Tribune.

Dr. Yandl has held faculty positions at Michigan State and DePaul Universities. An advocate for music as an agent of social change, he has taught in tuition-free programs for underserved urban youth in Chicago: Project S.O.A.R. and El Sistema-affiliate Y.O.U.R.S.

Dr. Yandl studied at DePaul University, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in clarinet performance. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Michigan State University and completed additional studies at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid, Spain. His teachers include Larry Combs, John Bruce Yeh, Julie DeRoche, Ted Oien and Jan Eberle.
