Dr. Kendra Jackson is an assistant professor of counseling at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, where she teaches courses such as Multicultural Counseling, Internship, Human Growth and Development and Group Counseling. Dr. Jackson is passionate about using faith to inform counseling as her students learn how to counsel individuals through trauma, depression, addiction and more.

Dr. Jackson received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Bowling Green State University and her Master of Education in Counseling with a specialization in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling from Ohio University. In 2017, she completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Ohio University. Her dissertation was titled “A Qualitative Study: Understanding the Perceptions of Black Pentecostal Pastors Towards Mental Health and Collaborating With Mental Health Counselors.”

Dr. Jackson is a member of the Michigan Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association and the board and leadership team for the Association for Specialists in Group Work. She enjoys baking from scratch, bowling, spending time with her friends and family, shopping and traveling.

“Counseling is a ministry and I must do God’s work, assisting in the healing and growth of children and families, but also guiding students in utilizing the gifts that God has placed within them as they transform the lives of many through the ministry of counseling.”
